Founded by Giuseppe Ostuni in 1945, over time Oluce has managed to successfully build a collection that is structured like a rich, multifarious story inhabited by products that are able to go beyond fashion and become icons of Italian design.
The company , already present at the IX Triennale di Milano, has won two Compasso d’Oro. One International Design Award, The Gold medal at the XIII Triennale di Milano and its products appear in the world’s most important permanent design collections.
Over the years, in addition to its work with Vico Magistretti, Joe Colombo, Tito Agnoli, and Ostuni&Forti Oluce has also commissioned design projects, David Lopez Quinconces, Federica Farina, Marta Perla, AngelettiRuzza, Victor Vaisilev, Mist-O, Mariana Pellegrino Soto, Francesca Borelli and Christophe Pillet, these define the visual language of the company and its high-end designer lighting solutions.
Vico Magistretti talks about his projects for Oluce:
"Geometry is a very important variable, I have great fondness for it. Geometry is like the Latin consecutio temporum: it is something that makes one stay in reality, that gives a sense of reality, that provides a tool for measuring reality. I happened to use it a lot."
Antonio Verderi recalls how the partnership between Vico Magistretti and Oluce was born with architecture: the building in Via Conservatorio 22 in Milan, completed in 1968, was the occasion for Magistretti and his father Angelo Verderi to meet. When, in 1973, the latter became the owner of Oluce, the architect's involvement in the company came almost naturally.
"I have often seen my father, who was a construction contractor, working with Magistretti. Together they have built many projects that are mentioned in architecture manuals: such as the house in via Conservatorio in Milan, and a spectacular tourist village in Framura, in the province of La Spezia, overlooking the cliff."
