Architectures in Milan

FVM does not organise guided tours of the itinerary.

The sequence of works of architecture presented here forms an outdoor museum within the urban fabric of Milan, which, together with the studio where Fondazione Vico Magistretti is based, is aimed at highlighting and enhancing the architect’s legacy.

The guideline adopted for selecting the works presented is basically connected with their "accessibility" by means of public transport and basically follows the route of the three historical underground railway lines: "the only modern thing in Milan", as Magistretti used to say defiantly.

All the buildings referred to are located within a radius of just a few hundred metres from an underground station and, hence, can easily be reached even just for improvised and unplanned visits. The line of thinking obviously resulted in the exclusion of certain projects of considerable significance in the architect's curriculum.

Overall, however, it is felt that this survey of his works provides a sufficiently comprehensive overview - from a thematic, technical and poetic viewpoint - of the substance and distinctiveness of the work Magistretti carried out for the city of Milan during over fifty years of architectural work performed, as his maestro and mentor Ernesto N. Rogers hoped, in the name of "professionalism capable of becoming culture".

In Fondazione Vico Magistretti it is possible to buy (€ 5) the Milanese architectures guide.
