100 years of Vico Magistretti

To celebrate the centenary of the birth (2020) of the Milanese architect and designer Vico Magistretti, Fondazione Magistretti proposes the traveling exhibition 100 years of Vico Magistretti.

The exhibition retraces the 60 years of Vico Magistretti career: from the most famous projects to those less well known, from works of architecture to products that have entered thousands of homes around the world. The exhibition is composed by the two souls, inextricably linked to each other, of Magistretti’s work: on the one hand architecture with drawings, photographs, project reports of houses and buildings, on the other hand design with sketches and catalogues of many products that have become icons of Italian Design.

On the one hand 100 years of Vico Magistretti narrates the story of an architecture that is strongly anchored to the urban fabric and the territory - interpreted as a historical and cultural context - that has reached levels of excellence not only in defining form and space but above all in having shown particular attention for materials and construction details.
On the other hand, the section dedicated to design captures the result of historical professional relationships of Vico Magistretti with some of the most important design companies (including Artemide, Cassina, De Padova, Flou and Oluce  who are also partners of the Foundation) over a span of over fifty years, during which he designed some of the most significant objects in the production of standard furniture: chairs, lamps, tables, beds, kitchens, wardrobes, bookcases, objects redesigned in use and shapes, through that elegant game of typological redesign that has always been his signature.
